the Zombie Walk was the largest turnout yet, with a huge crowd of well made zombies. Some came fully prepared, others used our makeuup services at Project Zombie Attack for outfitting, while still others were painted by the nigh~famous Shane Morton of Silverscream Spookshow.

it was a lot of zombies, and everyone looked great. we had a nice walk, and I'm sure you can see at least 100 Youtube Videos by tomorrow. I'm the guy with the nice mask and the awesome guts.

We'd like to have a good turnout for the L5P Parade on the 17th as well, so get there early and look for the Project Zombie Attack booth~!!

It was a fun day today, and the rain stayed at bay until the event was over. can't ask for much more.

Eyedrum May Soon Call It Quits
Financial straits snare Atlanta's longest-running all-volunteer nonprofit arts space

ATLANTA - Facing a heavy rent burden and ever-increasing operating expenses, Eyedrum's board of directors held an emergency meeting Sunday, July 11, to consider the survival of the longtime art and music organization.
The options are few. They include a significant decrease in rent, bringing on other Atlanta-based arts organizations to sublet part of the 6,0000-square-foot space, a move to a smaller space, or an end to the award-winning venue altogether.
Having just celebrated 10 years in October 2008, the demise of Atlanta's longest-running alternative art and music space would be a huge loss to the Atlanta community. Eyedrum consistently has been a nurturing ground for creativity and progressive thinking in that time.
The Eyedrum music archive, the gallery's greatest asset next to the people involved, features more than 1,000 shows recorded live over the past 10 years. It is one of the few venues that features - built-out by members of the all-volunteer board - three visual art gallery spaces, and a performance space with a professional-quality sound system with multi-track recording capability.
Eyedrum secured a $30,000 Warhol Foundation curatorial grant in 2006, and is a 10-year Best of Atlanta winner in both music and art categories (Creative Loafing).
These accomplishments were achieved all while operating debt-free - yet another point of achievement considering the nontraditional nature of the organization, and limited grant and sponsorship funding.
The board plans to attempt a negotiation with its landlord, Braden Fellman, later this week, and will reconvene no later than July 26 to discuss any developments on rent reduction, and to consider proposals from other arts organizations. Arts organizations and investors who are interested in partnering with Eyedrum should contact Vice Chairman Allen Welty Green at agmedia@mindspring.com.
Any donations received through Eyedrum's website (www.eyedrum.org) will be directed toward operating expenses. And while such donations are greatly appreciated, the urgency and severity of Eyedrum's financial burden cannot be overstated. Without a hefty reduction in overhead costs, a major move - physically or in terms of the organization's identity - is unavoidable.

WANTED: Pole Dancers to Volunteer for the Arts - Atlanta Area

STEAMBUG is an art car / art project applying for funding from the Alchemy Arts Fundraiser on June 27th. We have a great big and very sturdy pole mounted on top of a winged '69 purple VW Beetle- and we need YOU do dance on it. It will be parked curb side, directly in front of the venue, so flashy is encouraged, though there is regrettably no nudity in public...

Requirements for Dancers:

* Must know how dance on a pole
* Must feel sexy and inspire lusty feelings in others while dancing
* Must be OK with heights (platform is about six-feet off the ground)
* Must be sober enough to not fall off
* Steampunk attire a bonus!

Get involved in Middle Eastern Music in the ATL

I would like to start a bi-monthly music salon. What I want to do with this is to get musicians together to play and rehearse music mainly from the Middle East, North Africa, and the Balkans. Everyone, no matter your musical level, is encouraged to attend these salons – drummers, melody players, dancers aka zill players!

Last fall I spent 5 months in Cairo, Egypt where I began my journey into Arabic music. I really don’t want to loose what I’ve learned, so I’d like to see if anyone in the Atlanta area is interested in coming to weekly music rehearsals/ jam sessions/ learning sessions about Arabic music. I would like to be able to share what I’ve learned so I can practice and not forget it! Any instrument would be welcome, just keep in mind that quartertones are harder to play on some instruments than others.

I have some sheet music from this semester in Cairo, but I’m open to learning things by ear as well, which is how it really is done. The
sheet music is all in C as I play the violin, so any of you b flat or F or alto or bass players be prepared to transpose the music if you want to play it.

I don’t profess in any shape, form, or fashion to be an expert in Middle Eastern music, just a student who wants to grow her skills with an ensemble! I would like this to be very low key and fun and hopefully a way to grow a handful of students and musicians that appreciate and want to perform Middle Eastern music, especially so that when the big names come in town, we can really benefit from their instruction.

I am just playing facilitator for this event. I will share my knowledge and I hope others will participate and do the same. Everyone is encouraged to bring both sheet music and songs to the salon for us to play. You do not have to read music to be here, nor do you have to have any experience in music to participate. I would like to be able to foster a community of people wanting to learn music and be able to play at haflas and events.

I ask everyone bring a donation of $5 cash for rehearsal space for each rehearsal.

I was driving through Decatur on my way into work the other morning and I kept hearing this strange noise coming from my car.

GREAT.

The bucks are tight in zee Hoopla household right now & I do NOT want to fork out some $500 freaking dollars to replace some tube or hose or wires in my car that I don't even know how to pronounce...

So I turned the radio off to try & hear the sound more clearly.

At first I thought maybe it was my air conditioner? Even though it was first thing in the morning it was already hot as hell & my air had been running since I cranked the car. So I cut the AC off.

NOPE!

I was still hearing it.

~Devyani performs pure American Tribal Style Bellydance (ATS) in the FatChanceBellyDance format. ATS is a modern style of bellydance
with roots in Egyptian bellydance and stylistic influences from Spain and India . The dancers interact through a system of non-verbal cues

Some local artists have collected debris from the hurricane, primarily collected in Cabbage Town. Then we made art out of the debris, which will be auctioned along with all the other fun to raise money to help Cabbage Town recover from the twister. Somehow I have more sympathy for the little bungalows that blew away than I do for the windows on the downtown skyrises.

Anyway, I made art for the show, come out and chill! I probably won't be there super early but I'll be there.

Pro-Tibetan protests have occurred in record numbers across the world showing the Chinese Authority that they may be able to kill and suppress inside Tibet, but the people of the world are speaking ... Protesters in Boston, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Germany, Italy, Mysore, New Delhi, Chennai, Buffalo, Chile, Vienna, Israel, Denmark, Lithuania, Norway, Chicago, Bangkok, Seoul, New York, Sydney, London, San Francisco, Minnesota, Barcelona, Munich, Belgium, Taiwan, Paris, and even a vigil was held in Beijing. Unprecedented numbers of peace marchers, hunger strikes, vigils and protests in front of Chinese Embassies worldwide is surely not what the Communist Chinese Government had intended when they made the decision to 'crackdown' on Tibetans. One report even states that Tibetan protesters were gunned down in broad daylight in the streets of Lhasa. The Israeli parliament held a discussion about "the Genocide in Tibet".

The main performers of the day would be the following:

Dr. Ravi Subramanian, Asst. Professor - College of Management, Georgia Tech
Ravi received his training in Indian classical music from the late Gomati Sitaram at The Fine Arts Society, Mumbai. He has been actively involved in encouraging interest in Indian classical music and dance on various campuses during his academic career. Although trained in the Carnatic violin, one of his hobbies is experimenting with other instruments and genres. His most recent experiment is Carnatic music on the electric guitar.

Dr.Parag Chordia, Asst.Professor - Music Department, Georgia Tech
Parag is a sarod player and is a disciple of Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta, one of the greatest of all Indian sarodiyas. Before that, he studied with Michael Robbins, a disciple of of two legends of Indian classical music Pandit Radhika Mohan Maitre and Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh.

Ria Mukherjee has received training in Hindustani vocal music under the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in India, from Kaustav Ray and his father, Pandit Biresh Ray. She specializes in the kirana gharana.

Hey everybody!

Like I mentioned in another thread concerning the murder of Meredith Emerson, Mellow and I've been talking about going up to Blood Mountain for a hike and we've decided on Saturday, February the 16th... sound good?

Mellow brought up the idea of going to Blood Mountain to bring some positivity, burn some sage, and cleanse the place out a little bit. I'd like to go so I can further restore my faith in humanity by getting together with my dirty-hippy brethren for a celebration of all that's beautiful in life. Heh! You can join us for whatever reasons you'd like!

Please call (706) 439-6066 if you have any information about missing University of Georgia graduate and fellow North Georgia hiker, 24 year old Meredith Hope Emerson.

Meredith is an athletic, experienced hiker and has a blue belt in martial arts. She is a white, blonde, woman, stands 5-foot-4, and weighs 120-pounds. She was last seen on BLOOD MOUNTAIN located in UNION COUNTY, Georgia on Tuesday, January 1st.

She left a note for her roommate explaining that she went hiking with her black Labrador retriever, Ella.
Meredith is originally from Colorado.

A PERSON OF INTEREST HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED

A 61 year-old white man, identified as Gary Michael Hilton (approximately 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with grey / white/ or silver hair and having either bad or no teeth) was last seen with Meredith along Freeman Trail on Blood Mountain inside VOGEL STATE PARK. He was wearing a yellow jacket with a large, older backpack and had a sheath of some sorts attached to one leg.

On multiple occasions, Hilton and Meredith were seen talking together by several eyewitnesses on Tuesday, January 1st and were also reported to have been letting their dogs play together. Hilton was seen with his own dog, believed to be a "reddish" colored Retriever, most likely going by the name of Dandy (or possibly Danny).

Hilton has two white, Chevrolet Astro minivans both registered in DEKALB COUNTY even though Hilton is not believed to live in DeKalb County according to Union Country Sheriff's investigator, Kimberly Verdone.

Police say Hilton was last spotted driving a white Chevy Astro minivan.

He is registered as owning TWO WHITE, CHEVY ASTRO MINIVANS. He has a 2001 model with the license plate number AFQ 1310 and a 1996 model with license plate number 76 APZ.

Our Belly Dance Fusion class meets every Thursday at 8PM at The Red Door (726 Spring St). We teach to the intro to intermediate levels. We have two teachers that will cater the class to fit your needs. Our teachers have a knowledge of Cabaret, traditional middle eastern dance and American Tribal. The cost is only $7 per class. We start with the basics of Egyptian cabaret and move into more advanced styles of dance. Students will learn new movements each class, building coordination, grace, strength, and flexibility.

All right freakers !
Let's see if this tribe is about community...

My esteemed roommate from New York, Ross Williams, will be in town this week-end. This is much rejoicing on a variety of levels, for us and local bar owners, but unfortunately the bastard prefers to bring his golf clubs rather than his guitar, and golfing isn't exactly why we got along (let's face it, especially given the current water crisis : golf sucks). On the other hand, rock rocks. And no one plays acoustic rock better than Ross & I & a good botttle of single malt - that is, provided we have enough guitars (2). I have one already, but the golf clubs don't make good music.

So here is why i call to the ATL community : is there anyone out there who is willing to lend me a guitar for the week-end ? I promise i will take great care of it, and you'll be invited to a kick-ass jam. (i live in Poncey Highlands)

Andrew Provine became emersed in music at the age of 5 playing the piano. For years he maintained a strict program of two hour practices a day. Throughout middle school he began learning the guitar which has been his primary instrument for the last 14 1/2 years. Frequenting weekend "rave" parties he made many close friends throughout the Atlanta music scene. Departure time for the Playa is coming up quickly and I'm guessing that you're as concerned as I am about how to get a pile of cr@p out and back. Dreaming about your beloved bicycle with the fuzzy seat? A shade structure to keep your tent from transforming into an oven?

We've got a solution! We are renting a massive 26 foot Penske truck and transporting whatever we can cram in out and back. So in the spirit of "The Green Man", it should save on fuel and waste (no more coolers in the dumpster), let us bring large art pieces, and allow us to bring out all of the luxuries that makes the desert enjoyable. Here is a chance to save some cash.

This email communicate the rules (which will be strict to protect the group and those fronting the $$), and describes the timeline. Please read this thoroughly and respond ASAP if you are interested in this group endeavor. The space and # of people will be limited -- so it is first come, first served. Please measure your gear. Don't worry too much if your gear does not exactly fit within these dimensions -- you are basically paying for volume.

RULES:

Pagans have promised to conjure some "rain magic" to erase a figure of Homer Simpson which has been painted next to the Cerne Abbas giant in Dorset.

The figure, representing Homer in his Y-fronts holding up a doughnut, is standing to the left of the chalk giant and his erect penis. The cartoon character was drawn on the hill slope to promote the new Simpsons film, which will be released later this month. He was painted with water-based biodegradable paint that will wash away when it rains.

"We were hoping for some dry weather but I think I have changed my mind. We'll be doing some rain magic to bring the rain and wash it away," said Ann Bryn-Evans, joint Wessex district manager for The Pagan Federation. "I'm amazed they got permission to do something so ridiculous. It's an area of scientific interest," she added.

Many believe the 180ft giant to be a symbol of ancient spirituality that can aid fertility. Opinions are divided as to the age of the Cerne Abbas giant, with some experts saying that he dates from as recently as the 17th century, while other says he was designed thousands of years ago.

The giant has previously been used to promote products such as condoms, jeans and bicycles. He receives a full rechalking every 25 years.

I keep thinking "it would be easy to do something there" like... I don't know a medium sized orchestra that wasn't making a loud noise could perform there for hours before anyone even noticed it was happening.

I'm into it, myself... I have this growing yen to do something unexpectedly gentle / utterly nonviolent / inarguably surreal in Freedom Park.

July 7th, 2007 is supposedly a lucky day. The amount of weddings taking place has tripled according to some statistics. Las Vegas is going nuts with wedding chappels being booked from 5 am to 11:59PM let alone their casinos according to an article in Time magazine. So my question for this group is: what are y'all doing for 777?

I will be dancing my butt off at Awalim's Tribal Carnivale event at Red Light Cafe...hopefully we'll have a palm reader and fortune tellers to tell us how lucky we'll be on the luckiest day of the century!

-Anheuser Busch will be allowed to sell its "Organic Wild Hops Beer" without using any organic hops at all.

-Sausages, brats, and breakfast links labeled as "USDA Organic" are now allowed to contain intestines from factory farmed animals raised on chemically grown feed, synthetic hormones, and antibiotics.

-Products labeled as "USDA Organic" and containing fish oil may contain toxins such as PCBs and mercury (note: nonorganic fishoil products have this same risk, but despite the USDA ruling, it is against the National Organic Standards to allow such toxins in organic foods).

I still have three bugs up my ass and a tree-sized chip on my shoulder about the Tabernacle (they stiffed me for 800$ when my troupe opened for Grace Jones).

Any other places to veer big acts toward? It came up, today. I mean off-the-nut acts, of course, and not mainstream stuff (though something like the Roxy qualifies). Space is a major consideration - more so, I think, than glam or $$ - but attention to security is vital.
