So let's just chuck November, and focus on December:

what am I going to be doing, freaks? and where is your house? I need somewhere to lurk at 3am-6am and someone told me you look good in your undies.

My birthday is coming up.

Zombies are a black hole into which I dump time and effort

but its fun at least.

the Zombie Walk was the largest turnout yet, with a huge crowd of well made zombies. Some came fully prepared, others used our makeuup services at Project Zombie Attack for outfitting, while still others were painted by the nigh~famous Shane Morton of Silverscream Spookshow.

it was a lot of zombies, and everyone looked great. we had a nice walk, and I'm sure you can see at least 100 Youtube Videos by tomorrow. I'm the guy with the nice mask and the awesome guts.

We'd like to have a good turnout for the L5P Parade on the 17th as well, so get there early and look for the Project Zombie Attack booth~!!

It was a fun day today, and the rain stayed at bay until the event was over. can't ask for much more.

what does it take to get people out of the house, these days, in A-town?

I'm truly stunned at the lack of audience reported at no fewer than five events of the past week or so.

Tangential but hey: the sky is falling. Why are we in this town? What is here to protect or love or nurture? Help me out here and tell me why effort isn't wasted in this city.

(good lawd that's a lotta words b-low but if you could just pay-pal some munies to: burland@mindspring.com mark it for eyedrum and it'll help tremendously)

"I am sad to announce that Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery may soon be shuttered. Please read the attached PDF or text below. Reply with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
Chante

*******************
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Eyedrum May Soon Call It Quits
Financial straits snare Atlanta's longest-running all-volunteer nonprofit arts space

ATLANTA - Facing a heavy rent burden and ever-increasing operating expenses, Eyedrum's board of directors held an emergency meeting Sunday, July 11, to consider the survival of the longtime art and music organization.
The options are few. They include a significant decrease in rent, bringing on other Atlanta-based arts organizations to sublet part of the 6,0000-square-foot space, a move to a smaller space, or an end to the award-winning venue altogether.
Having just celebrated 10 years in October 2008, the demise of Atlanta's longest-running alternative art and music space would be a huge loss to the Atlanta community. Eyedrum consistently has been a nurturing ground for creativity and progressive thinking in that time.
The Eyedrum music archive, the gallery's greatest asset next to the people involved, features more than 1,000 shows recorded live over the past 10 years. It is one of the few venues that features - built-out by members of the all-volunteer board - three visual art gallery spaces, and a performance space with a professional-quality sound system with multi-track recording capability.
Eyedrum secured a $30,000 Warhol Foundation curatorial grant in 2006, and is a 10-year Best of Atlanta winner in both music and art categories (Creative Loafing).
These accomplishments were achieved all while operating debt-free - yet another point of achievement considering the nontraditional nature of the organization, and limited grant and sponsorship funding.
The board plans to attempt a negotiation with its landlord, Braden Fellman, later this week, and will reconvene no later than July 26 to discuss any developments on rent reduction, and to consider proposals from other arts organizations. Arts organizations and investors who are interested in partnering with Eyedrum should contact Vice Chairman Allen Welty Green at agmedia@mindspring.com.
Any donations received through Eyedrum's website (www.eyedrum.org) will be directed toward operating expenses. And while such donations are greatly appreciated, the urgency and severity of Eyedrum's financial burden cannot be overstated. Without a hefty reduction in overhead costs, a major move - physically or in terms of the organization's identity - is unavoidable.
________________________________________________________________________

Started in 1998, Eyedrum is a nonprofit organization developing an interdisciplinary approach to the arts by incorporating a wide range of contemporary art, music and new media in its gallery space. The gallery is operated entirely by volunteers, and supported through memberships and donations. It has been recognized internationally as well as locally by Atlanta's Office of Cultural Affairs and within the community at large for its advancement of innovation."

* Steampunk attire a bonus!

Get involved in Middle Eastern Music in the ATL

I would like to start a bi-monthly music salon. What I want to do with this is to get musicians together to play and rehearse music mainly from the Middle East, North Africa, and the Balkans. Everyone, no matter your musical level, is encouraged to attend these salons – drummers, melody players, dancers aka zill players!

Last fall I spent 5 months in Cairo, Egypt where I began my journey into Arabic music. I really don’t want to loose what I’ve learned, so I’d like to see if anyone in the Atlanta area is interested in coming to weekly music rehearsals/ jam sessions/ learning sessions about Arabic music. I would like to be able to share what I’ve learned so I can practice and not forget it! Any instrument would be welcome, just keep in mind that quartertones are harder to play on some instruments than others.

I have some sheet music from this semester in Cairo, but I’m open to learning things by ear as well, which is how it really is done. The
sheet music is all in C as I play the violin, so any of you b flat or F or alto or bass players be prepared to transpose the music if you want to play it.

I don’t profess in any shape, form, or fashion to be an expert in Middle Eastern music, just a student who wants to grow her skills with an ensemble! I would like this to be very low key and fun and hopefully a way to grow a handful of students and musicians that appreciate and want to perform Middle Eastern music, especially so that when the big names come in town, we can really benefit from their instruction.

I am just playing facilitator for this event. I will share my knowledge and I hope others will participate and do the same. Everyone is encouraged to bring both sheet music and songs to the salon for us to play. You do not have to read music to be here, nor do you have to have any experience in music to participate. I would like to be able to foster a community of people wanting to learn music and be able to play at haflas and events.

Here is some general information:

Date and Time:
Sundays: May 10th, May 31st, June 14th and 28th, July 12th
3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Cost:
I ask everyone bring a donation of $5 cash for rehearsal space for each rehearsal.

Place:
We will meet at Awalim’s rehearsal space in the Virginia Highlands
1031 Reeder Circle Atlanta, GA (house is up the hill, rehearsal in the garage studio)

Events:
Eventually I would like to be able for this salon to be able to perform at haflas…

Communication:
If you are interested in this salon, please join the google group: http://groups.google.com/group/memusicatl

Musical training is not required, but commitment to our rehearsal schedule and a willingness to be outside your comfort zone for a while as you learn the patterns and technique are. We're a fun group and there are a lot of nifty things underway; give it some thought.

Erotic Interracial Photo Shoot - Male Models Needed

I need two males, one white, one black, for a TFCD shoot with female models. These are really artistic shots with the emphasis on intimacy and connection.

I will be shooting the Black male/white female shoot on Monday, January 5th at 7 pm. My Studio is located on Peters Street Downtown. You should be 25-40 and preferably over 6' tall. Complexion and build are not as essential as your ability to act and convey emotion.

I will be shooting the Black female/white male shoot on Tuesday, January 6th in the same location. I'm looking for a white male who is 25-30. An athletic body is preferred and also at close to 6' and over.

Any interested persons should reply and I will send you the links to the female models. These are sensual, erotic, tasteful pictures. NOT porn. I'm trying to capture interracial love, not crass and stereotypical depictions.

Thanks

Atlanta, Ga 30308

Halloweentown: Room 1

DJ Venom
(First Atlanta Appearance)
UC Music
Rumford, RI
(Hard House)

A Hardhouse Legend! Venom has graced the decks of some of the largest events in the World, and to many, is the #1 Hard House DJ/Producer in the country! DJ Venom has been playing the rave circuit since the early 90's. This veteran has gained notoriety with his superb track selection and his award winning scratching skills. He has produced over 71 mixtapes and CDs, including the infamous Straight Bangin series. His scratching skills have earned him two 2nd place finishes at the Winter Music Conference DJ Competitions in 1998 and 1999. . His specialty is hard house, ghetto booty house, and his own style and label: 'retro-tech', a modern version of old school techno, breakbeat and jungle. He continues to break barriers, producing and playing tracks that add a new dimension to the music scene. Few put on a performance quite like Venom.

Dead P.A. (Live PA) (Dead PA for President Tour)
(First Atlanta Appearance)
www.deadpa.com
Houston, TX
(Drum N Breaks)

One of the fastest up-and-coming live P.A.s in the U.S. - DEAD P.A. is changing the rules of dancefloor events. Featuring an unusual dynamic interaction of live percussion, guitar, keyboards, vocals and programmable audio, their shows have set a fire all across the country with their unique brand of 'Drum N Breaks.' While DJs are known for bringing music to the party, DEAD P.A. is bringing back the party to music. An emphasis on performance (rather than standing behind gear and pumping a fist once in a while) has generated comparison to a concert atmosphere and has consistently won over even the 'cliquiest' of music-lovers.

Angel F & Eric Marquez
(First Atlanta Appearance)
Chicago, IL
Electro/Breaks
Direct Drive Digital

Chicago natives Angel F and Eric Marquez have been dropping some of the best electro, breaks, techno, house and tech house mixes to ever come out of Chicago. Their releases have been spun in the world's top clubs including DC10, Pacha, Space, Crobar and more by some of the world's top Djs including Bad Boy Bill, Tiesto, and Dj Dan to name a few. Now in their third year running their own label, Direct Drive Digital they have impacted the EDM community in a massive way and are one of the top selling labels on beatport. These two are not to be missed on the decks, as they drop a style that is their own and uniquely Chicago.

A Knife of Her Own' feat. Embersreich
(Special Film Premiere)

The Horrible Children are pleased to present "A Knife of Her Own", a Russell Holbrook film about a young serial killer's quest for the right weapon. VJ/Editor/VFX artist Elli Mayhem will be re-editing the film live along with Embersreich performing their live experimental dark industrial soundtrack. Electronic fire and nuclear mass destruction is Embersreich's theme. Obscure sample sound treatments, dark ambient soundscapes, and a throbbing beat are joined by onstage theatrics and pyrotechnics to create a soundtrack for the end of the world.

Spring 4th Center
726 Spring St

Gein (feat. abelGEIN)
(Drum N Bass)
Evol Intent/Bastard Child/Guerilla
Releases include an E.P. for Moving Shadow (Street Sweeper EP), a few 12''s released by the likes of Habit, Guerilla, Tech Itch, Penatration, Freak and quite a few more in the bag. With support from the likes of heavyweights Tech Itch, Dieselboy, Evol Intent, Ewun, Counterstrike and more, GEIN will surely be a strong presence in drum n bass for a long time. Look out for the Clergy E.P. forthcoming on Guerilla Records. GEIN is coming to kill dance floors and blow up speakers near you!!!GEIN!!!

Kevin Dispain vs Scott Britt
(Breaks)
With over 20 years of combined experience behind the decks in various clubs, Kevin Dispain & Scott Britt are both well known and loved by all the crowds they play for. Through many residencies, including Kevins current night at Opera and with many releases underneath their belts these two have learned what it takes to move every audience. With Kevin's passion for house music and Scott's love for breaks these two come together for one unforgettable night of old school breakbeat madness in a one of a kind tag team set!

WHAT is that damn noise?!!

I was driving through Decatur on my way into work the other morning and I kept hearing this strange noise coming from my car.

GREAT.

The bucks are tight in zee Hoopla household right now & I do NOT want to fork out some $500 freaking dollars to replace some tube or hose or wires in my car that I don't even know how to pronounce...

So I turned the radio off to try & hear the sound more clearly.

At first I thought maybe it was my air conditioner? Even though it was first thing in the morning it was already hot as hell & my air had been running since I cranked the car. So I cut the AC off.

NOPE!

I was still hearing it.

Then I thought - well maybe it's some kind of brake line thing? So I roll my windows down & drive au naturale for a while. Somehow I determined it was not MY car making the noise but I hadn't been rollin' next to the same car for HOW MANY MILES NOW had I?

NOPE!

While sitting at a red light I realized IT WAS THE DAMN CICADAS! It was some kind of pseudo-Hitchcockian thing going on all around me for at LEAST a couple of miles!

THEY'RE TAKING OVER!

Anyway - I've really been wanting to use the word "Hitchcockian" on Tribe for a while now...

SO THANKS ATLANTA CICADAS!

Atlanta, Ga 30308

PANGEA ROOM

Bioluminescence LIVE PA (Tribal Trance) – First Atlanta Appearance!
(Pangea)
Pangea Productions/Pure Perception
Bioluminescense is the exciting collaboration of DJ’s Kameleon & Labyrinth. In their own worlds they concoct hypnotic journeys that have made people move for many years, but when their powers combined they bring together a refreshing new sound. Combining influences from many years of collecting, DJing, and producing electronic music, their sound is deep, driving, and brings new ideas to classic progressive sequencing. The two have been working hard in the studio making sure each track is full of life, with a truly organic feel.

Jackson (Tech-House) – First Atlanta Appearance!
(San Francisco, CA)
Fork/Jacksondeep.com
For the past eight years, Jackson has been making waves in the San Francisco underground for his ability to blend the alien sounds of techno with the raw funk of house music. Taking from an eclectic array of influences, from industrial body beat to emo- tech, Jackson's infectious tech-house sets have only one goal – taking control of your body.

Wichdokta (Psytrance)
(Ukiah, CA)
Geomagnetic
The Wichdokta's sets are something of a spectacle to witness, his amazing energy and sinister music go hand in hand to give you the ride of your life on the dancefloor. Along with throwing the infamous GEMINI gatherings, he has been hailed as one of the top DJ's in San Francisco and has played with some of the best in the industry.

Kameleon & Labryinth (Progressive Psy)
(Pangea)
Pangea Productions

ATLANTIS ROOM

Pan13 (DnB)
(West Palm Beach, FL)
Quick Dance Floor Reactionary Force / Duende Artist Promotion
Pan 13’s devastating mix of Techstep, Neuro, and Wobble has been burning up dance floors from South Florida to New York for over a decade, and now this veteran has come to ignite the underground! From early illegal parties to his three-year residency at Respectable Street (the longest standing dance club in the Southeast) to Ft. Drum, New York (the only Drum and Bass monthly in U.S. Military history), South Florida’s Original Selecta will bring the pressure like no other!

The Secret Life – LIVE PA (IDM/Experimental)
Nophi Recordings
The Secret Life have been rocking shows all over the southeast since 2005. Like Boards of Canada after a case of PBR, their signature sound "Peachtree Industrial" features chunky breakbeats, grimy synths and distorted atmospherics. Since the release of their album "The Great Book of Mysterys" they have been using improvisation to transform their tracks into something new and unique for every show. The Secret Life is a secret no longer!

Mayhem vs Logam – SPECIAL 4 DECK TAG TEAM (DnB)
>>Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas.<<

Southern Fried Tribal @ Red Light Cafe!!!!

w/ Awalim (GA), Devyani (AL), the Mezmer Society (NC) and Jahara
Phoenix(GA)!

Doors open at 8, show starts at 9pm
Tickets for the show are ONLY available at the door, price is $12

Workshops with our out of town guests!

It is a long standing tradition to have an out of town guest at our summer Red Light show and to invite them to teach a workshop....this year we have TWO! The workshops will be taking place at Red Light (veryexciting!) so space is limited to 20 people for each workshop. The workshops WILL sell out (you learned your lesson at TribalCon, right?)so register early.

The schedule for during the day will be:

Registration will take place at 12 noon at Red Light Cafe.

12:30-2:30 Burlesque-esque with Onca- Get in touch with your vaudeville attitude, with badass strengthening drills, work on dance combos, theatre exercises, and more! How to walk, emote, etc...Now that you know how to dance, how do you PERFORM?

~The Mezmer Society was founded in autumn 2007, debuting at the Yard Dogs Road show in Asheville and and this year they were invited to teach and perform at TribalFest in CA! Onca is the Director of Baraka Mundi and August is the President of the Accordian club, together they are the Mezmer Society, fusing the spirit of the speak easy with bellydance.

2:30-4:30pm ATS formations, fades and combos with Devyani!- Our favorite subjects!!!

~Devyani performs pure American Tribal Style Bellydance (ATS) in the FatChanceBellyDance format. ATS is a modern style of bellydance
with roots in Egyptian bellydance and stylistic influences from Spain and India . The dancers interact through a system of non-verbal cues
to create a fresh, high energy performance unique to each venue and performance. This style is the launching pad for many Tribal Fusion groups. All pieces performed tonight will be in the traditional ATS improvisational style perfected by creator, Carolena Nericcio.

Follow the link to attend the workshops!
http://southernfriedtribal.eventbrite.com

GALE / ARAB SCARAB at the Art Garden, this Friday (June 27th)

Members of Gale and Arab Scarab are coming together to make music for a new art gallery in Clarkston GA (where a mysterious blossoming of arts and culture seems to be taking place for some strange reason lately); the gallery is 'The Art Garden' and it's located directly next door to Atlanta's Best Coffee -

http://www.atlantasbestcoffee.net/attachments/Image/ABC_PC_85_X_55_Map.jpg

The music is a blend of modern composition, eastern/ME,
scary, soothing, intense, and transcendental. Future themes may also
include haunted cowboy ballads, futuristic, psychedelic, and heavy.

Help Miche (the gallery owner) out, here; but even despite that, people should go see these players because it's free, and
they're actually pretty damn fuckin good.

Musicians sought

If you're interested in joining an ensemble that meets weekly to create delicate and beautiful sounds for performance and also the accompaniment of performance, please send me a message and ask about the ongoing project. The music itself is not complex but neither is it simple; it's based heavily on Balinese / gamelan theory so a western education won't necessarily = total immediate facility with this work. The main criterion we're looking for is commitment to weekly meeting and the discipline to practice outside of the group (on your own).

If you have any questions or remarks, put them in the thread; that way others' questions can be answered as well.

AtlPsy presents: Swamp Stomp

Sat. May. 31st, 2008
Spring4th, Atlanta GA
10pm-8am

Psytrance:

FaceHead (Anomalistic Recs. – Eugene, OR)
FaceHead is just a guy. He started making music approximately 3,285 days ago. About 1,460 of those were spent producing psychedelic trance. Although he naturally had a unique perspective, 794 of those 1,460 days were spent searching for his own audio identity. Something new. Something different. After founding Anomalistic Records, about 297 days ago, FaceHead toured the country, finally landing in Eugene, Oregon. He has spent the last 201 days working countless hours (1,206 hours) in a dark, smoke filled closet creating a totally unique sound designed to push the boundaries of genre, mind and body. You will experience a full spectrum of emotions and leave the dance-floor gasping for stability.

In addition to performing across the globe, Richard has designed sound patches for the Native Instruments application, Absynth and has also scored commercials for Nike and Touchstone Pictures.

Hungryflower

My band Hungryflower is kind of (way) offbeat, in a sense utterly alien, but we're great for events like weddings (we're doing one Friday which made me think of telling you about this), parties, ceremonies, ritual curses against your enemies, benedictions and blessings for your newborn, funerals for your loved ones. I'm a minister, as well, and can add that functionality to your event.

To keep it lively, you could use this space to suggest other unusual settings for us.

Here are some pictures of us doing some stuff back in that last-gasp-of-life-in-Atlanta we were all pretending to experience a couple of years ago:
http://www.dianaobscura.com/050805.html

Here's a website thing:
http://www.hungryflower.net/

There's stuff in the relevant tribe.net photoalbum:
http://hungryflower.tribe.net/photos

Neato!

PM me if you need Hungryflower to come scare but then win over your mom. We're pretty affordable, as such things go.

i23.photobucket.com/albums/b...ebrez.jpg

This Saturday at Lenny's (www.lennysbar.com)
Art show, raffles, bands, DJs, and drinks with Monet!

Some local artists have collected debris from the hurricane, primarily collected in Cabbage Town. Then we made art out of the debris, which will be auctioned along with all the other fun to raise money to help Cabbage Town recover from the twister. Somehow I have more sympathy for the little bungalows that blew away than I do for the windows on the downtown skyrises.

Anyway, I made art for the show, come out and chill! I probably won't be there super early but I'll be there.

Come to my neck of the woods, cover your sinful flesh in some kind of insanely cool wrap thing or portable tent, and let's hit the hookah bars in Clarkston. Or anywhere else within reach, for that matter.

Who's in? I got a message from heaven that there would be time for a hookah thing within this next perfect-weather-for-injudicious-hookah season.

Unprecedented Tibetan Protests Worldwide

Pro-Tibetan protests have occurred in record numbers across the world showing the Chinese Authority that they may be able to kill and suppress inside Tibet, but the people of the world are speaking ... Protesters in Boston, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Germany, Italy, Mysore, New Delhi, Chennai, Buffalo, Chile, Vienna, Israel, Denmark, Lithuania, Norway, Chicago, Bangkok, Seoul, New York, Sydney, London, San Francisco, Minnesota, Barcelona, Munich, Belgium, Taiwan, Paris, and even a vigil was held in Beijing. Unprecedented numbers of peace marchers, hunger strikes, vigils and protests in front of Chinese Embassies worldwide is surely not what the Communist Chinese Government had intended when they made the decision to 'crackdown' on Tibetans. One report even states that Tibetan protesters were gunned down in broad daylight in the streets of Lhasa. The Israeli parliament held a discussion about "the Genocide in Tibet".

Maybe the world is asking China to have compassion if they want to have their 'precious' Olympic Games if you read in between the lines. Several top athletes have already threatened to boycott the games and Beijing can't even promise clean air for them! I hope for a quick end to the utter stupidity and arrogance of the Chinese Authority in regards to the complete brutalization of any sense of the term 'human rights' amidst this 'crackdown' on autonomy ...
Like I mentioned in another thread concerning the murder of Meredith Emerson, Mellow and I've been talking about going up to Blood Mountain for a hike and we've decided on Saturday, February the 16th... sound good?

Mellow brought up the idea of going to Blood Mountain to bring some positivity, burn some sage, and cleanse the place out a little bit. I'd like to go so I can further restore my faith in humanity by getting together with my dirty-hippy brethren for a celebration of all that's beautiful in life. Heh! You can join us for whatever reasons you'd like!

Here's the Wikipedia link on Blood Mountain:

GeorgiaTrails.com has lots of great information too:

RESPOND DIRECTLY TO THIS THREAD so we can all make arrangements on carpooling or convoy! ;~)

I found this while looking for ideas for a good King costume for this thingy this weekend...no real good ideas yet (send me sum!)

But this website is TITS!

http://www.subservientchicken.com/

My favorite commands so far are:

"come closer"

"stop drop and roll"

and "lay an egg"

What do your sick heads come up with that I might want to type in?

devilchicken - is that you!?!?

Word has it some creative types will be there being somewhat harsh toward Mr Dahlgren, shoving him, yelling at him. Ha ha! He deserves it: art is evil.

MISSING HIKER IN NORTH GEORGIA MOUNTAINS - MEREDITH HOPE EMERSON

Please click this link to read my blog entry about Meredith's disappearance (complete with informational links and photographs).
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=62762565&blogID=344218110

The following is a TEXT ONLY cut & paste of my blog entry about this over on MySpace:

Please call (706) 439-6066 if you have any information about missing University of Georgia graduate and fellow North Georgia hiker, 24 year old Meredith Hope Emerson.

Meredith is an athletic, experienced hiker and has a blue belt in martial arts. She is a white, blonde, woman, stands 5-foot-4, and weighs 120-pounds. She was last seen on BLOOD MOUNTAIN located in UNION COUNTY, Georgia on Tuesday, January 1st.

She left a note for her roommate explaining that she went hiking with her black Labrador retriever, Ella.
Meredith is originally from Colorado.

Click the photo of Meredith below, to read a news article about what's going on:

A PERSON OF INTEREST HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED

A 61 year-old white man, identified as Gary Michael Hilton (approximately 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with grey / white/ or silver hair and having either bad or no teeth) was last seen with Meredith along Freeman Trail on Blood Mountain inside VOGEL STATE PARK. He was wearing a yellow jacket with a large, older backpack and had a sheath of some sorts attached to one leg.

On multiple occasions, Hilton and Meredith were seen talking together by several eyewitnesses on Tuesday, January 1st and were also reported to have been letting their dogs play together. Hilton was seen with his own dog, believed to be a "reddish" colored Retriever, most likely going by the name of Dandy (or possibly Danny).

Hilton has two white, Chevrolet Astro minivans both registered in DEKALB COUNTY even though Hilton is not believed to live in DeKalb County according to Union Country Sheriff's investigator, Kimberly Verdone.

Police say Hilton was last spotted driving a white Chevy Astro minivan.

He is registered as owning TWO WHITE, CHEVY ASTRO MINIVANS. He has a 2001 model with the license plate number AFQ 1310 and a 1996 model with license plate number 76 APZ.

This is the only photo I've been able to find of 61-year old Gary Michael Hilton:

Guitar in the Dark

All right freakers !
Let's see if this tribe is about community...

My esteemed roommate from New York, Ross Williams, will be in town this week-end. This is much rejoicing on a variety of levels, for us and local bar owners, but unfortunately the bastard prefers to bring his golf clubs rather than his guitar, and golfing isn't exactly why we got along (let's face it, especially given the current water crisis : golf sucks). On the other hand, rock rocks. And no one plays acoustic rock better than Ross & I & a good botttle of single malt - that is, provided we have enough guitars (2). I have one already, but the golf clubs don't make good music.

So here is why i call to the ATL community : is there anyone out there who is willing to lend me a guitar for the week-end ? I promise i will take great care of it, and you'll be invited to a kick-ass jam. (i live in Poncey Highlands)

Disclaimer : we cannot guarantee that the instrument will lend itself to politically correct songs, as in the now classic Rubber Glove Love :

http://www.7minds.org/open_decks/Rubber_Glove_Love.mp3

(Ross on vocals and rhythm guitar, Tor on the violin, yours truly on lead guitar and drunken vocals)

Thanks very much in advance if you can help me out - and hence contribute to much musical mayhem.

Please PM me if you're down...

Psytrance:

aliEn meNtal (Insomnia Records, Echo Vortex) - San Fran, CA
Alien Mental began his musical voyage playing in various bands; metal, punk, jazz, fusion and more since the age of 16. He was pulled into the electronic realm of music in 2000, when he heard some pretty obscure electronic noise music coming from Japan and Europe. Completely blown away by the power of synthesizers and computers, he started to experiment with electronic music. After moving to San Francisco, he started the trance project "aliEn meNtaL". The project is geared towards pushing the boundaries of goa/psy trance and fusing different genres of music together. He has released tracks on labels such as Echo Vortex, Tantrumm, Drop Out, Vertigo, Mistress of Evil and Manic Dragon, in addition to his full length album, Mind Hack, on Insomnia Records.

Panties the Clown vs. Golden Showers from Jesus (Psybertribe, Those People) - NC
Nate attempts to create an atmosphere of morbidly amusing chaos. Using multiple cd decks and efx processors Nate creates a unique sound custom tailored for those who wish to go ''further.'' Hailing from North Carolina, he has over 13 years experience manipulating sound. His performances are always dark neuro excursions layered with hand picked samples woven together to create a tale of madness.

**And a special suprise guest you will not want to miss!!!***

And local Psyonauts:

Chillout:

Andrew Provine of Random Rabbit (http://www.myspace.com/1randomrabbit)
Andrew Provine became emersed in music at the age of 5 playing the piano. For years he maintained a strict program of two hour practices a day. Throughout middle school he began learning the guitar which has been his primary instrument for the last 14 1/2 years. In the late 90's Provine became very interested in electronic music and taught himself how to mix records. Frequenting weekend "rave" parties he made many close friends throughout the Atlanta music scene. Provine is an FAA commercially and seaplane rated pilot and in 2002 befriended well-known house music producer and pilot Chris Brann. Brann and Provine composed numerous songs and in August of 2004 Provine decided to get a computer and try his hand at production. Thanks to Charles Pazinets Provine was introduced to Ableton Live in early 2005 and never looked back. "Ableton has changed everything. I have played up to six instruments before during one ten or fifteen minute long performance. The universe is the limit." On May 25, 2005 Provine, Pazinets, and Adam Herbert came together officially to form Random Rabbit.

As a child he wanted to be an orchestra conductor when he grew up. Once "turned on" at age 18, there was no going back. The San Francisco psy scene of the 90's greatly influenced him as did the culture of psychedelics in general, providing a home for this bit of star matter we call oCeLoT. An oCeLoT is a wild spotted cat and is NOT a knight of any table round or otherwise.

)*(FREIGHT GOING TO BURNINGMAN)*(

Freight to the desert and back is still available! If you are interested, please contact Eli (4 0 4 * 9 4 4 * 9 6 2 4, or email -- e l i at yelloideas d o t c o m). See below for more details. Timeline for payment has been extended to this Friday, Aug 10th, but please contact me ASAP as I have to make a judgment call soon on whether we have enough interest.

====================================================
Departure time for the Playa is coming up quickly and I'm guessing that you're as concerned as I am about how to get a pile of cr@p out and back. Dreaming about your beloved bicycle with the fuzzy seat? A shade structure to keep your tent from transforming into an oven?

We've got a solution! We are renting a massive 26 foot Penske truck and transporting whatever we can cram in out and back. So in the spirit of "The Green Man", it should save on fuel and waste (no more coolers in the dumpster), let us bring large art pieces, and allow us to bring out all of the luxuries that makes the desert enjoyable. Here is a chance to save some cash.

This email communicate the rules (which will be strict to protect the group and those fronting the $$), and describes the timeline. Please read this thoroughly and respond ASAP if you are interested in this group endeavor. The space and # of people will be limited -- so it is first come, first served. Feel free to pass this along to friendly burners. Let's make this an amazing burn!

*** AND PLEASE don't reply to ALL recipients unless absolutely necessary. Thanks!

FREIGHT IDEAS:
Here are some of the big objects that you might consider taking out to the desert:
-- Bicycles
-- Large artwork
-- Shade structures
-- Sound and lighting equipment
-- Tables (for kitchen), couches, tents
-- Generators, tools
-- Rugs, tarps, PVC / bamboo
-- Coolers (which we would bring to Reno for shopping after picking you up)

TIMELINE:
Loading ATL - Aug 18 (Sat -- in B Complex)
Leave ATL - Aug 19 (Sun)
Arrive BRC - Aug 23 (Thur) -- Unload gear at Sparseland -- Esplanade & 2:30
Loading BRC - Sept 2-3 (Sun-Mon)
Leave BRC - Sept 4 (Tues)
Arrive ATL - Sept 9 (Sun)
Unload ATL- Sept 9 - 12 (Sun-Wed)

COST OPTIONS:

We are offering the following options with estimated costs. Depending on the # of people interested, these costs may fluctuate. We are defining a "Crate" as a container sized 30"x23"x21" (LxWxH) for a total of 8.5 cubic feet. And a "Block" is sized 61"x46"x42" (which is 5.1'x3.8'x3.5'), for 68 cubic feet. Please measure your gear. Don't worry too much if your gear does not exactly fit within these dimensions -- you are basically paying for volume.
a) One Bike -- $75 (each subsequent bike = $60)
b) One Crate -- $60 (each subsequent crate = $50)
c) One Crate and one Bike -- $125
d) One Block -- $275
e) One Block and one Bike -- $310

RULES:
==> You must give notice that you are "IN" by Friday, Aug 10th
==> You must provide full payment by Sunday, Aug 12th. I will tell you my pay pal acct address when you express interest. THIS IS NON REFUNDABLE (unless the truck is not rented).
==> You will have ONE day to load gear -- Sat, aug 18th.
==> All gear must be adequately packed and labeled -- this is up to the standards of the Cargo Nazis (Scott Dupree and myself) -- and generally requires that it be in a nice plastic crate or sturdy box, be padded, covered, etc. Imagine a bunch of junk bouncing 5K miles across the country and back. And consider that we will have to unpack the truck, so your gear may be sitting unprotected on the playa until you pick it up. BIKES MUST BE PACKAGED AS FOLLOWS: Pedals must be taken off and tied to the frame, and the handlebars must be loosened and turned 90 degrees. This is much more space efficient and keeps our costs down. The cargo nazis can assist if necessary.
==> We will not accept responsibility for the cost of damaged items. Sorry. We're going to make all efforts to pack carefully and ensure that someone else's gear does not crush yours, but Burningman contains an element of risk. Don't pack Grandma's china.
==> All gear must be loaded back into the truck on Sunday Sept 2nd or Monday Sept 3rd.
==> All gear must be unloaded and removed from the premises within 3 days after the truck returns to ATL.
==> If your cargo exceeds the volume that you have purchased, we will charge an extra $6 per CuFt.

------------------------

I know that this is a lot of rules, but we need to protect the investment of almost $5K. With your help, it should all flow smoothly. Hope that you're "on board"!!

Contact me if you're interested!!!

Homer chalk giant angers pagans

Staff and agencies
Tuesday July 17, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

Big issue... An image of Homer Simpson has been painted next to the famous Cerne Abbas giant. Photograph: PA

Pagans have promised to conjure some "rain magic" to erase a figure of Homer Simpson which has been painted next to the Cerne Abbas giant in Dorset.

The figure, representing Homer in his Y-fronts holding up a doughnut, is standing to the left of the chalk giant and his erect penis. The cartoon character was drawn on the hill slope to promote the new Simpsons film, which will be released later this month. He was painted with water-based biodegradable paint that will wash away when it rains.

"We were hoping for some dry weather but I think I have changed my mind. We'll be doing some rain magic to bring the rain and wash it away," said Ann Bryn-Evans, joint Wessex district manager for The Pagan Federation. "I'm amazed they got permission to do something so ridiculous. It's an area of scientific interest," she added.

Many believe the 180ft giant to be a symbol of ancient spirituality that can aid fertility. Opinions are divided as to the age of the Cerne Abbas giant, with some experts saying that he dates from as recently as the 17th century, while other says he was designed thousands of years ago.

The giant has previously been used to promote products such as condoms, jeans and bicycles. He receives a full rechalking every 25 years.

http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,2128300,00.html
______

17 July 2007

WATCH WHERE YOU THROW THAT DOUGHNUT, HOMER
DO'H! Homer Simpson wielding a monster doughnut has sparked a giant row.

Homer's hoop-la has been painted onto a hill next to the Cerne Abbas giant in Dorset to promote the new Simpsons movie.

The huge Homer was marked out with biodegradable paint, which should vanish when it rains.

But pagans who believe the 180ft figure is an ancient fertility symbol are going potty over the publicity stunt.

And they have pledged to cast a rain spell to wash away the cartoon character.

Ann Bryn-Evans of The Pagan Federation, said: "It's very disrespectful and not at all aesthetically pleasing. I'm amazed they got permission to do something so ridiculous."

The 17th-century chalk outline of the naked, sexuallyaroused, club-wielding giant has become a fertility symbol to childless couples.

Some believe having sex on its manhood will help them have a baby.

It's right there at the end of Freedom Parkway (fitting, non?); where it meets Moreland.

I keep thinking "it would be easy to do something there" like... I don't know a medium sized orchestra that wasn't making a loud noise could perform there for hours before anyone even noticed it was happening.

I'm into it, myself... I have this growing yen to do something unexpectedly gentle / utterly nonviolent / inarguably surreal in Freedom Park.

July 7th, 2007 is supposedly a lucky day. The amount of weddings taking place has tripled according to some statistics. Las Vegas is going nuts with wedding chappels being booked from 5 am to 11:59PM let alone their casinos according to an article in Time magazine. So my question for this group is: what are y'all doing for 777?

I will be dancing my butt off at Awalim's Tribal Carnivale event at Red Light Cafe...hopefully we'll have a palm reader and fortune tellers to tell us how lucky we'll be on the luckiest day of the century!

Yngona (on this list) sent me this as she knows Im all inot organics. Does this boil anyone else blood?

-----
tinyurl.com/26ogxc

ALERT UPDATE (6/23/2007): Despite receiving more than ten thousand comments from consumers and family farmers opposing various aspects of a late May 2007 proposal, the USDA has approved an interim rule that will allow 38 new non-organic ingredients to be allowed in products bearing the "USDA Organic" seal.

The USDA's passage of this proposal has resulted in the following:

-Anheuser Busch will be allowed to sell its "Organic Wild Hops Beer" without using any organic hops at all.

-Sausages, brats, and breakfast links labeled as "USDA Organic" are now allowed to contain intestines from factory farmed animals raised on chemically grown feed, synthetic hormones, and antibiotics.

-Products labeled as "USDA Organic" and containing fish oil may contain toxins such as PCBs and mercury (note: nonorganic fishoil products have this same risk, but despite the USDA ruling, it is against the National Organic Standards to allow such toxins in organic foods).

I still have three bugs up my ass and a tree-sized chip on my shoulder about the Tabernacle (they stiffed me for 800$ when my troupe opened for Grace Jones).

Any other places to veer big acts toward? It came up, today. I mean off-the-nut acts, of course, and not mainstream stuff (though something like the Roxy qualifies). Space is a major consideration - more so, I think, than glam or $$ - but attention to security is vital.

June 8th is Kele Day

Springvale Park is an appropriate place to commemorate the murder of Kele Bindu.

Cigars, rum, cannabis are all acceptable refreshments (fuck the "law" that didn't protect him or us - at all)

whatever you remember or
imagine
him wanting.

Praise the one who fell and flew away:
lost Kele

nothing could seem quite so dead
as blood from his once lovely head

The people of Daffodil clutched tight together for a short time afterward;
but then parted, for good.

That's what death is.

Screaming,
crying,
holding tight -
dying.

Going away forever.

yaaaaaaaa!

Buncha the Ripe folks, various freaks and scaries, fire artists and that sort, all clumping under the aegis of my good fried JSin who's an excellent guy and whose events always make me feel good about living and life and stuff. Let's all show up there in force, and freak the fuck right out. Since it's a burner thing, I doubt anyone will mind when you turn out in that insane get-up you like to wear so much.
