Some local artists have collected debris from the hurricane, primarily collected in Cabbage Town. Then we made art out of the debris, which will be auctioned along with all the other fun to raise money to help Cabbage Town recover from the twister. Somehow I have more sympathy for the little bungalows that blew away than I do for the windows on the downtown skyrises.

Pro-Tibetan protests have occurred in record numbers across the world showing the Chinese Authority that they may be able to kill and suppress inside Tibet, but the people of the world are speaking ... Protesters in Boston, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Germany, Italy, Mysore, New Delhi, Chennai, Buffalo, Chile, Vienna, Israel, Denmark, Lithuania, Norway, Chicago, Bangkok, Seoul, New York, Sydney, London, San Francisco, Minnesota, Barcelona, Munich, Belgium, Taiwan, Paris, and even a vigil was held in Beijing. Unprecedented numbers of peace marchers, hunger strikes, vigils and protests in front of Chinese Embassies worldwide is surely not what the Communist Chinese Government had intended when they made the decision to 'crackdown' on Tibetans. One report even states that Tibetan protesters were gunned down in broad daylight in the streets of Lhasa. The Israeli parliament held a discussion about "the Genocide in Tibet".

Maybe the world is asking China to have compassion if they want to have their 'precious' Olympic Games if you read in between the lines. Several top athletes have already threatened to boycott the games and Beijing can't even promise clean air for them! I hope for a quick end to the utter stupidity and arrogance of the Chinese Authority in regards to the complete brutalization of any sense of the term 'human rights' amidst this 'crackdown' on autonomy ...
MISSING HIKER IN NORTH GEORGIA MOUNTAINS - MEREDITH HOPE EMERSON

Please click this link to read my blog entry about Meredith's disappearance (complete with informational links and photographs).
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=62762565&blogID=344218110

The following is a TEXT ONLY cut & paste of my blog entry about this over on MySpace:

Please call (706) 439-6066 if you have any information about missing University of Georgia graduate and fellow North Georgia hiker, 24 year old Meredith Hope Emerson.

Meredith is an athletic, experienced hiker and has a blue belt in martial arts. She is a white, blonde, woman, stands 5-foot-4, and weighs 120-pounds. She was last seen on BLOOD MOUNTAIN located in UNION COUNTY, Georgia on Tuesday, January 1st.

She left a note for her roommate explaining that she went hiking with her black Labrador retriever, Ella.
Meredith is originally from Colorado.

Click the photo of Meredith below, to read a news article about what's going on:

A PERSON OF INTEREST HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED

A 61 year-old white man, identified as Gary Michael Hilton (approximately 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with grey / white/ or silver hair and having either bad or no teeth) was last seen with Meredith along Freeman Trail on Blood Mountain inside VOGEL STATE PARK. He was wearing a yellow jacket with a large, older backpack and had a sheath of some sorts attached to one leg.

On multiple occasions, Hilton and Meredith were seen talking together by several eyewitnesses on Tuesday, January 1st and were also reported to have been letting their dogs play together. Hilton was seen with his own dog, believed to be a "reddish" colored Retriever, most likely going by the name of Dandy (or possibly Danny).

Hilton has two white, Chevrolet Astro minivans both registered in DEKALB COUNTY even though Hilton is not believed to live in DeKalb County according to Union Country Sheriff's investigator, Kimberly Verdone.

Police say Hilton was last spotted driving a white Chevy Astro minivan.

He is registered as owning TWO WHITE, CHEVY ASTRO MINIVANS. He has a 2001 model with the license plate number AFQ 1310 and a 1996 model with license plate number 76 APZ.

This is the only photo I've been able to find of 61-year old Gary Michael Hilton:

All right freakers !
Let's see if this tribe is about community...

My esteemed roommate from New York, Ross Williams, will be in town this week-end. This is much rejoicing on a variety of levels, for us and local bar owners, but unfortunately the bastard prefers to bring his golf clubs rather than his guitar, and golfing isn't exactly why we got along (let's face it, especially given the current water crisis : golf sucks). On the other hand, rock rocks. And no one plays acoustic rock better than Ross & I & a good botttle of single malt - that is, provided we have enough guitars (2). I have one already, but the golf clubs don't make good music.

So here is why i call to the ATL community : is there anyone out there who is willing to lend me a guitar for the week-end ? I promise i will take great care of it, and you'll be invited to a kick-ass jam. (i live in Poncey Highlands)

Disclaimer : we cannot guarantee that the instrument will lend itself to politically correct songs, as in the now classic Rubber Glove Love :

(Ross on vocals and rhythm guitar, Tor on the violin, yours truly on lead guitar and drunken vocals)

Thanks very much in advance if you can help me out - and hence contribute to much musical mayhem.

Please PM me if you're down...

aliEn meNtal (Insomnia Records, Echo Vortex) - San Fran, CA
Alien Mental began his musical voyage playing in various bands; metal, punk, jazz, fusion and more since the age of 16. He was pulled into the electronic realm of music in 2000, when he heard some pretty obscure electronic noise music coming from Japan and Europe. Completely blown away by the power of synthesizers and computers, he started to experiment with electronic music. After moving to San Francisco, he started the trance project "aliEn meNtaL". The project is geared towards pushing the boundaries of goa/psy trance and fusing different genres of music together. He has released tracks on labels such as Echo Vortex, Tantrumm, Drop Out, Vertigo, Mistress of Evil and Manic Dragon, in addition to his full length album, Mind Hack, on Insomnia Records.

Panties the Clown vs. Golden Showers from Jesus (Psybertribe, Those People) - NC
Nate attempts to create an atmosphere of morbidly amusing chaos. Using multiple cd decks and efx processors Nate creates a unique sound custom tailored for those who wish to go ''further.'' Hailing from North Carolina, he has over 13 years experience manipulating sound. His performances are always dark neuro excursions layered with hand picked samples woven together to create a tale of madness.

Andrew Provine of Random Rabbit (http://www.myspace.com/1randomrabbit)
Andrew Provine became emersed in music at the age of 5 playing the piano. For years he maintained a strict program of two hour practices a day. Throughout middle school he began learning the guitar which has been his primary instrument for the last 14 1/2 years. In the late 90's Provine became very interested in electronic music and taught himself how to mix records. Frequenting weekend "rave" parties he made many close friends throughout the Atlanta music scene. Provine is an FAA commercially and seaplane rated pilot and in 2002 befriended well-known house music producer and pilot Chris Brann. Brann and Provine composed numerous songs and in August of 2004 Provine decided to get a computer and try his hand at production. Thanks to Charles Pazinets Provine was introduced to Ableton Live in early 2005 and never looked back. "Ableton has changed everything. I have played up to six instruments before during one ten or fifteen minute long performance. The universe is the limit." On May 25, 2005 Provine, Pazinets, and Adam Herbert came together officially to form Random Rabbit.

Freight to the desert and back is still available! If you are interested, please contact Eli (4 0 4 * 9 4 4 * 9 6 2 4, or email -- e l i at yelloideas d o t c o m). See below for more details. Timeline for payment has been extended to this Friday, Aug 10th, but please contact me ASAP as I have to make a judgment call soon on whether we have enough interest.

====================================================
Departure time for the Playa is coming up quickly and I'm guessing that you're as concerned as I am about how to get a pile of cr@p out and back. Dreaming about your beloved bicycle with the fuzzy seat? A shade structure to keep your tent from transforming into an oven?

We've got a solution! We are renting a massive 26 foot Penske truck and transporting whatever we can cram in out and back. So in the spirit of "The Green Man", it should save on fuel and waste (no more coolers in the dumpster), let us bring large art pieces, and allow us to bring out all of the luxuries that makes the desert enjoyable. Here is a chance to save some cash.

This email communicate the rules (which will be strict to protect the group and those fronting the $$), and describes the timeline. Please read this thoroughly and respond ASAP if you are interested in this group endeavor. The space and # of people will be limited -- so it is first come, first served. Feel free to pass this along to friendly burners. Let's make this an amazing burn!

*** AND PLEASE don't reply to ALL recipients unless absolutely necessary. Thanks!

FREIGHT IDEAS:
Here are some of the big objects that you might consider taking out to the desert:
-- Bicycles
-- Large artwork
-- Shade structures
-- Sound and lighting equipment
-- Tables (for kitchen), couches, tents
-- Generators, tools
-- Rugs, tarps, PVC / bamboo
-- Coolers (which we would bring to Reno for shopping after picking you up)

TIMELINE:
Loading ATL - Aug 18 (Sat -- in B Complex)
Leave ATL - Aug 19 (Sun)
Arrive BRC - Aug 23 (Thur) -- Unload gear at Sparseland -- Esplanade & 2:30
Loading BRC - Sept 2-3 (Sun-Mon)
Leave BRC - Sept 4 (Tues)
Arrive ATL - Sept 9 (Sun)
Unload ATL- Sept 9 - 12 (Sun-Wed)

COST OPTIONS:

We are offering the following options with estimated costs. Depending on the # of people interested, these costs may fluctuate. We are defining a "Crate" as a container sized 30"x23"x21" (LxWxH) for a total of 8.5 cubic feet. And a "Block" is sized 61"x46"x42" (which is 5.1'x3.8'x3.5'), for 68 cubic feet. Please measure your gear. Don't worry too much if your gear does not exactly fit within these dimensions -- you are basically paying for volume.
a) One Bike -- $75 (each subsequent bike = $60)
b) One Crate -- $60 (each subsequent crate = $50)
c) One Crate and one Bike -- $125
d) One Block -- $275
e) One Block and one Bike -- $310

RULES:
==> You must give notice that you are "IN" by Friday, Aug 10th
==> You must provide full payment by Sunday, Aug 12th. I will tell you my pay pal acct address when you express interest. THIS IS NON REFUNDABLE (unless the truck is not rented).
==> You will have ONE day to load gear -- Sat, aug 18th.
==> All gear must be adequately packed and labeled -- this is up to the standards of the Cargo Nazis (Scott Dupree and myself) -- and generally requires that it be in a nice plastic crate or sturdy box, be padded, covered, etc. Imagine a bunch of junk bouncing 5K miles across the country and back. And consider that we will have to unpack the truck, so your gear may be sitting unprotected on the playa until you pick it up. BIKES MUST BE PACKAGED AS FOLLOWS: Pedals must be taken off and tied to the frame, and the handlebars must be loosened and turned 90 degrees. This is much more space efficient and keeps our costs down. The cargo nazis can assist if necessary.
==> We will not accept responsibility for the cost of damaged items. Sorry. We're going to make all efforts to pack carefully and ensure that someone else's gear does not crush yours, but Burningman contains an element of risk. Don't pack Grandma's china.
==> All gear must be loaded back into the truck on Sunday Sept 2nd or Monday Sept 3rd.
==> All gear must be unloaded and removed from the premises within 3 days after the truck returns to ATL.
==> If your cargo exceeds the volume that you have purchased, we will charge an extra $6 per CuFt.

------------------------

I know that this is a lot of rules, but we need to protect the investment of almost $5K. With your help, it should all flow smoothly. Hope that you're "on board"!!

Contact me if you're interested!!!

Homer chalk giant angers pagans

Staff and agencies
Tuesday July 17, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

Big issue... An image of Homer Simpson has been painted next to the famous Cerne Abbas giant. Photograph: PA

Pagans have promised to conjure some "rain magic" to erase a figure of Homer Simpson which has been painted next to the Cerne Abbas giant in Dorset.

The figure, representing Homer in his Y-fronts holding up a doughnut, is standing to the left of the chalk giant and his erect penis. The cartoon character was drawn on the hill slope to promote the new Simpsons film, which will be released later this month. He was painted with water-based biodegradable paint that will wash away when it rains.

"We were hoping for some dry weather but I think I have changed my mind. We'll be doing some rain magic to bring the rain and wash it away," said Ann Bryn-Evans, joint Wessex district manager for The Pagan Federation. "I'm amazed they got permission to do something so ridiculous. It's an area of scientific interest," she added.

Many believe the 180ft giant to be a symbol of ancient spirituality that can aid fertility. Opinions are divided as to the age of the Cerne Abbas giant, with some experts saying that he dates from as recently as the 17th century, while other says he was designed thousands of years ago.

The giant has previously been used to promote products such as condoms, jeans and bicycles. He receives a full rechalking every 25 years.

http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,2128300,00.html
______

17 July 2007

WATCH WHERE YOU THROW THAT DOUGHNUT, HOMER
DO'H! Homer Simpson wielding a monster doughnut has sparked a giant row.

Homer's hoop-la has been painted onto a hill next to the Cerne Abbas giant in Dorset to promote the new Simpsons movie.

The huge Homer was marked out with biodegradable paint, which should vanish when it rains.

But pagans who believe the 180ft figure is an ancient fertility symbol are going potty over the publicity stunt.

And they have pledged to cast a rain spell to wash away the cartoon character.

Ann Bryn-Evans of The Pagan Federation, said: "It's very disrespectful and not at all aesthetically pleasing. I'm amazed they got permission to do something so ridiculous."

The 17th-century chalk outline of the naked, sexuallyaroused, club-wielding giant has become a fertility symbol to childless couples.

Some believe having sex on its manhood will help them have a baby.

ALERT UPDATE (6/23/2007): Despite receiving more than ten thousand comments from consumers and family farmers opposing various aspects of a late May 2007 proposal, the USDA has approved an interim rule that will allow 38 new non-organic ingredients to be allowed in products bearing the "USDA Organic" seal.

The USDA's passage of this proposal has resulted in the following:

-Anheuser Busch will be allowed to sell its "Organic Wild Hops Beer" without using any organic hops at all.

-Sausages, brats, and breakfast links labeled as "USDA Organic" are now allowed to contain intestines from factory farmed animals raised on chemically grown feed, synthetic hormones, and antibiotics.

-Products labeled as "USDA Organic" and containing fish oil may contain toxins such as PCBs and mercury (note: nonorganic fishoil products have this same risk, but despite the USDA ruling, it is against the National Organic Standards to allow such toxins in organic foods).

Mellow / Cherry - in God's name you will receive your prizes. You already have my esteem, but I understand that you can't put esteem in your CD player and expect much to happen. You know what I'd like? I'd like to hand each of you your prize in person. Please let me know when I can meet you. If that's just out of the question, though, I'll understand. These theatre pieces explore the territory between old-style drama and the spontaneous improvisation of the "happening".

It was Ferlinghetti's hope that in "feeling around on the frontiers of the theatre, we may yet possibly discover some 'seeking action' in life itself." In these pieces he conceived theatre as a search for revolutionary solutions with the audience itself made up of good and bad actors "acting out aspirations to some ideal existence."

They always talk up the drums, which are spectacular, no question, but they (for some reason) usually fail to strongly-enough make a big deal out of Raquy's skill with the Iranian kamanche - it's a rare instrument for anyone to be playing at all - especially a white chick - and she does it *real* damgud. Plus, they're all fine, like wine, only more dangerous.

I take that as a fair-to-decent kind of sign for the future since it used to be that people signed up here only to push *one* (usually tame and utterly mundane / sucky normal-people-oriented) event and then never sign on again to defend themselves from my witty and penetrating insights. FUCK THEM:

It's all about this hungry new generation seeking nourishment and input from you, the wise and tenured AAD stock. Justify their asperger's-spiked feelings of Neeeeeeeeed by posting some rollicking awesome events. Here's some old-man-throaty-wisdom:

• Earth Day is in April and there's going to be a parade for which a *SECRET* member of the Centre for Puppetry Arts staff is seeking participants. *there is no money here* but you can pitch for a small budget.

• Raquy and the Cavemen are coming to Atlanta. Ignore the fact that bitchy pseudo-dancers are thronging to backstab eachother in a zesty yet wholly unsexual froth of conceited envy over the prospect, and just go see them rock. They are a favorite of mine, and old friends of my wife (the front for the band used to play with the son of a great woman that once trained Ludmilla in the arts of Oriental Muscle Dance). Also in April, bitches.

• Hungryflower Gamelan is seeking new players. The director suffered major health problems and in the pause of convalescence the group lost some members to crap like jobs and school (typical frivolous atlanta bullshit). It's a demanding artform which centers around melody-created-by-rhythm, and experience is not necessary to begin training with Hungryflower, which will resume weekly meetings anon.

• Unusual services like animal communication, anoesis, interior design, psychic advice / counseling, art therapy, and more are becoming available from members of Daffodil - with this and all of the above, feel free to PM me for more information.

I am just beginning to learn about Chaos Magick. From what I understand of it so far, it is about tapping into your subconscious to get what you want out of life, like self-therapy. I think we've all in some way practiced Chaos Magick with positive thinking. It's not as hokey as I thought it would be, but really practical knowledge based on psychology, science, paradigms, etc. It's chaos so there are no rules, as far as, how you want to approach it.

Ilike the asthetic, even - except NOT those big red felt bows and gold trinkets all over the fucking place. When God comes back she'll slaughter the too-many-goddamn-red-felt-bows-and-gold-trinket crowd first, with a flaming sword.
Ah yes: the holiday season: I really do love it, I like the concept of enforced goodwill straining against overstressed nerves and traffic profanity, and I especially like the recent ludicrous divisiveness the forces of evil injected into it with the "War on Xmas" initiative advanced by the "Love Jesus but Don't Do What He Said To Do" bloc. Those guys are so wacky.

That's right; the Dirty Southern Burners have done it again. Seems every time we get together, it gets dirtier and dirtier. Spread your red bitch!!! SantaCon was one of the best times I have ever had. We had some where in the area of 35-45 Santa's.... We drank, sang carols, took pics, passed out candy and enjoyed company, met new friends and even introduced a few to what we do...

Check out the pics, there are a few links sent thru other emails for SantaCon, but we are currently working on getting them all into our new Atlanta SantaCon home

This site was designed in mind to provide a central point of things going on in both the South East and Atlanta, or your city/state if you choose to use it. It is also an alternative to using YahooGroups. Which is one of the main reasons DSB was started, to have a place for DSB's can get their theme camp figured out, use it to plan SantaCon, MnG's as well as share pics and conversation about the past, present and future. Are you going to participate???

www.dirtysouthernburners.com has only been live for a couple of days, so please be patient if there are any issues/problems and just send me an email at
shannon@dirtysouthernburners.com with details so the problems can be looked into. Also feel free to email if you have any suggestions or ideas of other things that could be done. ROCK ON! There will probably be things being added to and touched up over the next few weeks, so just remember that if something isn’t workin right, it maybe because of new additions and just let us know!!!!

Hope everyone enjoys our new project(s), SantaCon Photo's and their evenings!!! Hope to see everyone soon!

Hello fellow Santa’s………

We are within 4 ½ days of the 2nd Annual SantaCon in Atlanta and more details need to be posted so we can all pull this off as needed. This year is going to be a little different than last year. I’m sure most of you have gotten the details about the hotel most of us will be staying at after the event. It is close to our last venue we plan to visit. Details of that follow

From: haley [mailto:haleymchaney@yahoo.com]
Subject SantaCon Dec 16... Hotels
I have just reserved two rooms at the Stratford Inn for Dec.16th. If
you want to stay with us, let me know. We will try and get as many
peeps as possible in a room, but if you would like to reserve your own
room, the web address is www.stratfordatlanta.com. The rooms are 49.99
a night, but I think they charge a buttload of tax. Anyway, you can
either rent a room yourself or throw in with us, but let me know so I
can see how many people we are expecting with us.

~Haley

Ok, so the main game plan – at least as of the moment, but we will try not to get too far off track just yet……

Word on the street is that Santa starts at 4:42pm in Centennial Park in Atlanta GA…. For pics in the Park. From there we get on MARTA and take a trip to a local mall… Due to everything involved, im not naming the mall for the reason of once we leave the park, we will be thru the mall experience within a matter of about 20 min, we will travel to Little 5 Points from there, which will be our next meeting place. When we leave the park, we will be following the bullhorn and trumpet the rest of the night. It’s always better to stay in the crowd. You can’t stop 100 Santa’s, but small groups of them have a better chance of dealing with BS not worth dealing with on such a good night. Our MARTA trips need to be known as getting on the trains, since everyone needs to know where to get off. The Bullhorn will announce this MANY times in the Park. If you know someone on the trip, you can contact them; a few have been nice enough to let other Santa’s call them in the process if needed. Contact info below… The Mall trip needs to know to follow all the other Santa’s straight downstairs to have a walk thru to the other side, go upstairs and go back to MARTA. We may do other Malls in the area, but depends on what happens at the first. It was discussed about walk thru’s we had last year and how good they turned out that before every bar we go in, the bullhorn will announce if we will be rampaging or walk-in thru the venue we are entering….If you joined us last year, you’ll understand this one!

BRING CASH…. Drinks at bars SHOULD ALWAYS be paid for as soon as you get them… it takes 2 sec for the call from the bullhorn of SANTA’S OUT!!!! That it happens… ALL SANTA’S GONE….

A MARTA Daily card is recommended, depending on the time you plan on arriving. If you’re going to the airport and all places afterwards, the card is a good idea. Going to Centennial Park, MARTA is the prob the best route you can take. Phillips Arena stop is your best one. But unless your staying at the Stratford Inn, getting back to MARTA or the Park is going to be a task…. Something to think about. If you show up @ the Park on time, we will announce where we are going so you can follow in different transportation if you please.. My only request is that NO Santa’s drive drunk on this night. It would only look bad for all of us and cost you TOO much money!!!! Think of your fellow Santa and everyone one else on this earth.… PLEASE!!

When we start in Little 5 Points, we will be starting at the Vortex…. Look for the Santa’s to come in sometime around…. 6-6:30pm If your worried that you missed Santa after showing up late… Just call a Santa below… they can always help you find this group of Santa’s… On Route….. The North Highlands are in store… its just what’s between where we are and where we are going.
