I was driving through Decatur on my way into work the other morning and I kept hearing this strange noise coming from my car.
GREAT.
The bucks are tight in zee Hoopla household right now & I do NOT want to fork out some $500 freaking dollars to replace some tube or hose or wires in my car that I don't even know how to pronounce...
So I turned the radio off to try & hear the sound more clearly.
At first I thought maybe it was my air conditioner? Even though it was first thing in the morning it was already hot as hell & my air had been running since I cranked the car. So I cut the AC off.
NOPE!
I was still hearing it.
Then I thought - well maybe it's some kind of brake line thing? So I roll my windows down & drive au naturale for a while. Somehow I determined it was not MY car making the noise but I hadn't been rollin' next to the same car for HOW MANY MILES NOW had I?
NOPE!
While sitting at a red light I realized IT WAS THE DAMN CICADAS! It was some kind of pseudo-Hitchcockian thing going on all around me for at LEAST a couple of miles!
THEY'RE TAKING OVER!
Anyway - I've really been wanting to use the word "Hitchcockian" on Tribe for a while now...
SO THANKS ATLANTA CICADAS!

Have I told ya lately that I LOVE you? Anyone who's been dying to use the word "Hitchcockian" on Tribe is supacool in my book. But then, you've been supacool for a long damn time. -

Re: WHAT is that damn noise?!!
Fri, August 22, 2008 - 12:34 PMWhen I was a kid in Pennsylvania there were so many cicadas that they'd keep me up for hours at night. (so as a result I myself would never mistake the sound for anything... that noise bores into your skull)
funny story. I'm glad its the kind where all was well after all and happily ever after.

Re: WHAT is that damn noise?!!
Fri, August 22, 2008 - 12:57 PMheh! I'm glad too - I don't think I can afford one more damn thing blowing up right now!
on a similar note... (nature & bugs & stuff)... I'm REALLY glad that today felt so much like autumn - nice strong breeze all day & hearing the rustling of leaves (even if they are still green and attached to the trees) just makes me happy.
SO THANKS TROPICAL STORM FAY! -

Re: WHAT is that damn noise?!!
Wed, August 27, 2008 - 10:05 AMThere have been no fewer than 15 *really* loud explosions in Clarkston since Sunday. I mean window-shaking motherfuckers.
wtf?
Two have involved lengthy power-outages. Yesterday I was only watching a kind of crappy movie so it was probably for the best. -

Re: WHAT is that damn noise?!!
Wed, August 27, 2008 - 6:41 PMTurns out it was electrical transformers. Is that insane or have I become too timid about the grid?
In my day, th'dang transformers didn't blow up in sequence, one after the other like that.
Damn!
In happy news, the "development" (freaking infill barbie condos) that was going up in the lot next to our home has been shut down by neighborhood protest. WTG crotchety old people! -
